Dr. David Eckman is the professor of Biblical Hebrew and Spiritual Formation (yes, an odd combination) at Western Seminary. He is also the founder of ‘Becoming What God Intended’ Ministries as well as the author of several books including Becoming Who God Intended and Sex, Food, and God. Of utmost importance, he is a fine Christian, a caring husband, father, and professor, and a lover of the God who is Trinity.
Along with Brian Morgan, David Eckman made my time studying the Old Testament as exciting as my time studying the New Testament. He has a brilliant grasp of biblical Hebrew and as you study under him you begin to realize what an amazing language it really is and you walk away understanding full well why you have taken the time to learn this language. In addition, I have walked away from his classes with a desire to continue reading the Old Testament, not only in Hebrew, but the LXX version as well. As Dr. Eckman often noted, it is sad that there can be so many people who study the New Testament, even scholars, who are in the dark about the LXX.
Dr. Eckman, thank you for taking the time to model the love of Christ to me. Thank you for being an example of someone who is an academic, yet who is not a slave to the academy. Thank you for showing me the wonders of the Old Testament, biblical Hebrew, the LXX, and the God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
