In January I set a goal to finish God’s Empowering Presence: The Holy Spirit in the Letters of Paul by Gordon D. Fee in its entirety. When I reached pg. 11 of 915 I read this statement by Fee: “I have no illusions that anyone will read the book through in its entirety.” At that point I wondered aloud if I was in over my head.
Today I want to boast because last night I exceeded Gordon Fee’s expectation by reading the entire work. I know others have done this before me but it has been something that I have wanted to do for a long time. I have been interested in the Pneumatology of the Apostle Paul for a while now so what better place to start?! Anyways, I thought I would share this accomplishment with all my friends out there in the blogosphere–especially those who share my respect for Dr. Fee.
Congrats. So what did you think? For 900 pages was it an easier than expected read?
GEP is my favorite book. Although I found out later that other 900 page books weren’t as easy to get through.
Thanks! I thought it was an amazing book. For its length it was not as hard to get through as I thought. On the other hand, it was still 900 + pages which is long!
It is now one of my favorite books as well. I wrote my review here: https://nearemmaus.wordpress.com/2010/04/11/book-review-gods-empowering-presence-by-gordon-d-fee/
Congratulations on your achievement 🙂
Good job! I have it on my between-semesters reading list!
Stuart and Jason,
Thanks!
Awesome!
Brian, congrats! I too hope to finish this monumental work.
Impressive. But REALLY cool people read it twice. Fee told me so himself.
If I read it twice it will be due to reading it in various parts as research over the next few decades! 🙂
