This is a short statement from N.T. Wright that is long on content:
“To affirm ‘the authority of Scripture’ is precisely not to say, “We know what scripture means and don’t need to raise any more questions.”
The Last Word, 91.

Great quote. Copy n paste.
I’ve just got my hands on “Surprised by Hope” and it is awesome, I can’t put it down and have another two of his books on order, I knew he was good but bwoy….
Do you know if Wright has written anything for the unbeliever, like a presentation of the gospel or something like that?
Stuart,
Simply Christian would be the closest he comes. It is his own attempt at something like Lewis’ Mere Christianity.
That’s one I have on order. I wondered if he had anything shorter as I’ve been looking for something to possibly replace my Spurgeon piece on the blog. Proving not easy to replace, but in terms of modern writers I suspect Wright would most certainly be the guy…
…having said this, maybe the way forward to is write a piece based on Simply Christian….
Stuart,
I think you will find it valuable. I don’t think there is anything shorter but I could be wrong.
Funnily enough, I wasn’t that fussed on ‘The Last Word’. Seemed he was trying to cover too much ground in too little space. I felt his lecture ‘How can the Bible be Authoritative?’ was a better read, if you’ve not done so already 😉

Jonathan,
Thanks for the link. The book does try to cover too much but it is a good book to have if you can find it at a discount price somewhere!
Yes, agreed. I read his lecture first, so maybe that spoiled the book somewhat for me.
The Last Word by Wright is actually a reinforcement of his approach to reading the New Testament. This is key.
TC,
This is true. It does provide a hermeneutical paradigm.
Brian, I have been reading through this book and read much of it last week, hope to finish it soon. Great thought!
