I am currently a student member of the Evangelical Theological Society (ETS) who is trying to familiarize myself with some of the jargon. The first of two parts of the Doctrinal Basis statement says, “The Bible alone, and the Bible in its entirety, is the Word of God and is therefore inerrant in the autographs.”
I have read a couple commentaries on the Book of Genesis that suggest the first chapter was added later as a sort of introduction to the book. That being said, is there any reason, if this is true, for it to even matter what we think of the accuracy of Genesis 1 as regards the doctrine of inerrancy as it is presented in ETS circles? If it is a later intro then it is not part of the original autograph, correct?
I am not trying to pose any sort of challenge but rather trying to understand what is meant by the statement on Scripture as it relates to how Scripture evolved. Thoughts?
