I know we Christians are citizens of heaven, but sometimes it is hard to deny one’s geographical identity. As one born and raised in Northern California, in the San Francisco Bay Area, who lived several years in “The City”, who loves the people and the culture from where I come, it is hard being in Portland, OR. It feels like a personal exile. I think I need to go read some Exilic Literature.
As Tony Bennett sang it: “I Left My Heart in San Francisco”.
GO GIANTS!!!

For those who don’t know who Brian Wilson is let me introduce you…
I feel the same, Brian.
Although my beloved Dodgers aren’t in the Series, I understand your feeling of exile; I miss the “mother-land” (So Cal), the Northwest is all wet 🙂 . Btw, I’ll be rooting for your Giants in the “series” 🙂 .
Bobby,
As long as I could remember I was told that California is the greatest place in the world. I believed it and now I really believe it, though I must say I’d prefer the north to the south (although San Diego is nice, but difficult to maintain confidence when everyone looks like they live in the gym or at the beach).
Well, I’ll pick the rangers in 7, but I really hope it goes the full 7 games and both teams make a good show of it. Both have beautiful stadiums and it’s going to be a glorious series! And more importantly, the Yankees aren’t in it!
Brian,
Perhaps you can see how I feel somewhat, an Anglo-Irishman.. now mixed within the US culture for awhile. And as Anglo-Irish, I am both Irish but also English, so I can be a “pain” I know! lol Just a bit of an eccentric..that’s the English part! (An Irish Englishman) And Btw, did you that C.S. Lewis was born in Ireland? Well kind of…Northern Ireland. lol
Oh yes, I like the Rangers! Deep in the heart of Texas! lol
*know
@Gary: I like that we are underdogs! I think it will be a great Series–much better than NY-PHIL 2.
@Robert: Rangers?! Its one things to pick um, something different to root for um!
Brian,
My oldest son is going to college in the UK (we have a home there still in greater London), but he is also into American baseball, and yeah you guessed it his favorite team is the Texas Rangers, go figure? An Anglo-Irish boy, who likes American baseball. He likes the Ranger centerfielder Josh Hamilton. I got him some posters here and sent them to him. Anyway, he is also a sports blogger himself, and much more able on this “box” than I am. So I know all about the Rangers! My son says the Rangers in 5! So there ya go… the game is a foot! What, that was Holmes..lol.
Sometimes I wind down my week on Friday afternoons with Tony Bennett. I’ve never lived in SF, but “Do you know the way to San Jose?” just isn’t the same ;).
@Kevin: Is “Do you know the way to San Jose?” a real song?! I don’t think I’ve ever heard it.
Wait, weren’t you an A’s fan the last time they were in the playoffs?! “Fair weather” (chanted)
Me?! Never. I’ve never, ever, ever been a Giants fan. Ever. Never will. Hate the A’s.
Fact!
Go Giants!
1) That’s not a beard. This is a beard.
2) That’s not “The City.” This is “The City.”
Also, this is God’s team, for reasons well known to any Orthodox American.
😉
Brian,
I “believe it too,” now if I could convince my wifey 😉 .
Here we go again, disagreein’, I prefer the “South,” but I can understand why you like the “North.” For some reason, and I do understand that this makes me sound rather strange (to some folks), I like LA county (probably because its “home”). Anyway, I’ll say it (since they’re NL and a CA team) . . . “Go GIANTS” !
