I wanted to read through Romans on the NIV 2011, but reading through it on the internet proved to be very challenging. I need to write an essay on Romans so I went through the trouble of creating a PDF of the whole book of Romans from the NIV 2011, and I also added bookmarks for each chapter.
I thought I would share it with the rest of the blogging community.

Merry Christmas!
Thanks for the early gift!
Such a kind and devoted fellow. Thanks, bro. 😉
Robert,
Nice work! I have always been interested in the translation of Rom. 3:25 and “Hilasterion”. It seems to my mind that the death of Christ does not appease God. Never is God said to be reconciled, since God Himself is immutable. The death of Christ is an expiatory death, the personal means for others and shows the mercy of God in the justiying grace for the sinner. And thus it is the Person of Christ that gives value to the work of Calvary…the saving efficacy of the Death depends entirely upon the fact that He who died was the Son of God incarnate. Thus it seems the idea of a coniliation and expiation; HE by whom, as a sacrifice, sin is expiated. As Luther is always want to say, the Son of God died upon the cross and He reconciles sinful man. So the best translation here is the old RSV “expiation” (the removal of sin)….”whom God put forward as an expiation by his blood”, “to be received by faith.” He God is the just and the justifier…”to show God’s righteousness…it was to prove at the present time that “HE” himself is righteous and that he justifies him (those) who has faith in Jesus.” (verse 26)
Brian, my pleasure.
TC, believe it or not but I did have you and Brian in mind when I was doing this. I know that Brian is working on a Romans paper, and I know that you were making various Pauline comparisons.
Fr. Robert, glad you enjoy it, now it’s time for me to read it.
It is crazy windy and chilly here in Southern California, currently 55 degrees, and it’s only 4pm!
Robert,
Yeah, I am in Yorba Linda, S. Cal right now…cold! That pic is me with my old leather flight jacket on, given to me by the US Marines. I flew a few missions in the old OV-10 Bronco (rear seat, FAC aircraft)…Semper Fi! The rear-seat guy was usually someone from or who knew Recon on the ground.
How long are you in California? I’m not that far from Yorba Linda, I would love to get together with you. I’ll drive down to Yorba Linda just email me your address.
Robert,
That would be nice, but I am also visiting near my little brother who lives in Anaheim, CA. He is an American citizen now. He was in the US Marine Corps several years back. He is 48. Btw, my wife and I own the condo in Yorba Linda. We stay there when we visit the US. I have to take a rain-check, maybe another time? And what town are you in?
Fr. Robert, Anaheim is even closer, but if you are busy with Family I understand. I live in Downey, my offices are in Costa Mesa, Ca. If you do have the time it would be my pleasure. Let me know I’ll meet you where ever is best for you.
The pic of me (jacket) is just of late! Not bad for an old man eh? lol Yeah us Irish can be full of it! But I bet ya already knew that? 🙂
Robert,
Well, I’m sure glad you did. 😀
Robert,
Now that I know that, I will try and work out the time factor, if I can? My wife has COPD, one of the major reasons we are here also. She cannot take the hard winters anymore. But I too would love to meet ya! I know this area also. I have been here many times. My mother (RIP) passed away here a few years back, close to my little brother (her baby..lol). We were here then also. She was in hospice here (her choice). But she is buried next to my father (UK).
This area is very Evangelical Christian yes? I met John MacArthur here several years ago. Have you been to the Archives Bookstore in Pasadenia? Not far from Fuller. I have met a few other Christian names up there. (Though not Mac there)
Fr. Robert,
I have not been to that book store in Pasadena, I do need to go. If you get a chance visit Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa. I would say that Orange County is fairly Evangelical, but things are quickly changing out here.
Robert,
I have been to the ‘Mother’ Calvary in Costa Mesa. Indeed a piece of Evangelical history! My brother went there for awhile. He is not an Anglican or “churchman” at all, he is as he says..a fundamentalist! But yeah, the OC is an open field now I believe. As my brother says, now very secular!
