I noticed today on Amazon that someone had posted a review of Eugene Peterson’s new book, “The Pastor“. Tomorrow I will announce the winner. My copy is on its way (Currently between Hong Kong and Sydney). For now, this comes from the book…
“..I want to insist that there is no blueprint on file for becoming a pastor. In becoming one, I have found that it is a most context-specific way of life:the pastor’s emotional life, family life, experience in the faith, and aptitudes worked out in an actual congregation in the neighborhood in which she or he lives – these people just as they are, in this place. No copying. No trying to be successful. The ways in which the vocation of pastor is conceived, develops and comes to birth is unique to each pastor.” – Peterson
As you might have guessed I am a little excited. All of next Tuesday is, well, Umm, Let’s just say I have an appointment…all day!
How come?
How come I have appointments on Tuesday? Because I’ll be talking with a guy named Eugene.
Why is the book in Hong Kong? Not sure. I asked for a direct flight….
Peterson? Nice.
Oh right. Well, his writtings have changed my life. It was while reading his book, Under the Unpredictable Plant, that I heard the call to ministry.
If I could be half as faithful a pastor as he is, I’d be happy.
This should be a great book. I think a review copy is headed my way from Zondervan at some point.
How did you get a copy? GRRR 😉
I am still unsure what all is coming. Zondervan wanted us to promote and I said send what you would like to send. My contact expected it to have arrived, but there is nothing yet. So I sit in suspense.
The book is really good. I had pre-ordered the Kindle version after I saw your mention of it here. I had forgotten what day it was going to be released and I was very pleased when I saw it show up on my Kindle yesterday. I did not have a chance to read it today, but yesterday I read about a third of the book. It’s quite good, and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
bit confused. Are you talking with the man himself…or engaging with his memoirs…..
Either way; I’m jealous.
yea for Kindle, that is the edition I’ll be getting soon as we get back to the canyon!
