Synopsis: Zoe Saldana plays Cataleya, a young woman seeking to revenge the slaughter of her family at the hands of what appears to have been a powerful Colombian drug lord. Since she witnessed the murders she prepares herself for revenge, becoming a hitwoman while systematically finding and killing all those who were involved. Eventually, she must face the consequences of revenge as she aims to widdle down her list.
Positives: This film features a strong, female lead. It has a lot of action. It does a fine job of depicting the “cost-and-rewards” of violence and revenge both on those being sought and the one doing the seeking.
Negatives: Of course, a movie like this further promotes the myth of redemptive violence, though I credit the writers with showing that not all revenge is glamorous.
This film is entertaining. It will fill a couple hours. It makes for a good theater experience and it will open up a discussion regarding redemptive violence and vengeance.
