My wife and I purchased an iPad this weekend. I will be taking it with me on a business trip later this week. I am trying to decide what book I’d like to download and read. These are the three I am considering:
James K. Beilby, Justification: Five Views
Anthony Le Donne, Historical Jesus: What Can We Know and How Can We Know It?
OR if you have a book you think I should consider let me know in the comments.
I don’t know any of those titles. My first thought when I saw the title of the post via JT’s fbook link was “A Little Exercise for Young Theologians.” No idea if it’s available in e-format.
I’m reading Beilby’s book right now. It’s substantive, but given the nature of the book it is quite readable.
I read “The Bible Made Impossible” and it started me on a three week-long project to discover what a “christocentric hermeneutic” would look like in practice. In fact, the reason why I haven’t read “The King Jesus Gospel” or “Simply Jesus” yet is that I am still blogging about the implications of Smith’s book. I’m also looking forward to “Justification: Five Views,” but please give me a couple of weeks to catch up before you read it.
Le Donne without question.
If you have any interest in the subject of biblical inerrancy, I would recommend Christian Smith’s “The Bible Made Impossible.” I read it in September and found a lot to think about.
BTW, this page was difficult to get to. There’s a broken link somewhere.
I have read Smith’s but not the other two. I recommend it, but it can be frustrating at times.
@Caedmon: I’ve heard positive things about that book.
@Mike: It sounds like a good balance.
@Nick: You’re confidence in Le Donne may have sold me!
@LCK, @Paul, @Adam: The intense responses I’ve seen from readers of Smith interest me. It makes me wonder if it can live up to the hype.
Insurrection by Rollins looks to be a good, short read too!
I liked “How Not to Speak of God” but since then I haven’t seen anything by Rollins that has grabbed my attention. I browsed through the preview of “Insurrection” and lost interest in a matter of seconds. If you find different let me know. Maybe I prejudged it too quickly.
