I’ve seen two interesting news stories swirling around social media the last couple days that I thought I’d pass along:
(1) Textiles found at Qumran have led to the suggestion that it may have been the Essenes who authored the scrolls found at Qumran, though this remains contested. Read Owen Jarus’ article “Mystery of Dead Sea Scroll Authors Possibly Solved”.
(2) Israeli archeologists have found coins that were minted in 17 CE under the foundation stones of the Western Wall in Jerusalem. Many thought that this was was completed by King Herod, but he died c. 4 BCE. These coins may confirm Josephus’ statement that work on the Temple Mount was completed under King Agrippa II.
