Yesterday I wrote a post titled “Parallel genealogies: Matthew 1:1-17 and Luke 3:23-28”. For those studying the genealogies maybe this video from Michael Licona will spark your interest. Let me know your thoughts:
Gospel of Matthew, Michael R. Licona
I had some difficulty with his metaphor of a camera being out of focus. The camera metaphor appeals to our modern propensities. Maybe the picture is out of focus, not because the Evangelist wrote lacking some historical accuracy. Maybe this is our problem, not the Evangelists. He might have redeemed it, but I think the metaphor ought to be scrapped.
Still, he may be onto something with the gematria angle.
Richard Bauckham demonstrated that John utilized gematria in both John and Revelation. One passage ends with the word, “Christ” and when you count the entire words up in the paragraph and use gematria, they = ” the Christ”.
Lots of that in John’s works.
I think the book, “The Testimony of the Beloved Disciple” is the one with most this info.
