Not to be a drip, because I do think all of the stuff highlighted in this video is worthy of highlighting; but I often get this empty feeling when I see things like this. It’s as if the most important part of 2012 is left out, even overshadowed by the endearing and indomitable human spirit. In other words, I get this empty feeling when I watch things like this some times, because the human spirit is recognized abstracted from its real ground in the humanity of Jesus Christ. There is no recognition that Jesus was the context and reason for all of these wonderful human achievements in 2012. See, a drip 😉 .
I don’t know if my brain processes it the same way exactly, but I understand the sentiment. It seems quite overwhelming, and I have an existential crisis wondering about all the humans in the world and how time moves along with people being born and dying, and I wonder what it all means. If the Gospel isn’t true, it is sad, and scary, and chaotic.
Brian,
Yeah, that is the kind of existential angst that I sometimes experience when I contemplate the mass (so to speak) of humanity without Christ too; it is a terrible feeling. Glad we are not of all men most to be pitied though 🙂 ! I usually get this sense when I’m watching the opening ceremonies for the Olympics, or really anytime I am somewhere (like a pro basketball game, baseball, football, hockey, etc.) where there is a mass gathering of humanity. I’m thinking that this kind of sensitivity must come from Christ in us; I’m thinking that it might align with the kind of sense and compassion that Jesus had when he looked out on the masses following him, like sheep without shepherd.
I found it a stunning video. Amazing!
And I agree with you Brian .. if the Gospel is not true – what hope is there?
