I find this statement helpful:
This picture + quote comes from the folk over at Darkwood Brew. We do not need to demonize those who sought to express virtue by enlisting in the military, even if we disagree with many of the actions done by our military. Similarly, we do not need to glorify war even if good people participated in it. Humans can be imperfect, yet worthy of honor. War can be something we recognize as horrible without dishonoring all of the participants.
Brian, thanks for this post.
Military serve their political masters (in a democratic society). Their political masters are merely human structures in a fallen sinful world. So a military does what it is ordered to do, and goes where it is ordered to go . The problem isn’t a military, rather it is a government, and a fallen humanity.
Even if we wish to see war banished, it is politics and governments that we should object to, not our military, for our military is merely a servant. The biblical principle at play is in [Rom 14:4].
If there is any consolation, it is that when our King comes, he will not only dissolve human governments, but also sin, war and death – all in one fell swoop. How glorious!
