I was born in Vallejo, CA, and the city went bankrupt a few years ago. I went to college in Stockton, CA, and Stockton declared bankruptcy recently too. My mother’s side of the family comes from Detroit, my mother was born there, and apparently one of my ancestors Jacob Marsac Sieur Desrochers was part of a commission sent by the King of France from Montreal to establish the place that would become Detroit, his ship landing at the place which is now Woodward Avenue in Detroit on July 16th, 1701.
The city of my birth, where I went to college, and the city where my family roots are deepest in what became the United States are all bankrupt now.
So far, I haven’t heard any bad news from Napa or San Francisco in California, Portland in Oregon, or San Antonio in Texas, but I’d be cautious with my budget if I were them!
