Another book arrived from IVP Academic today: John H. Walton’s and D. Brent Sandy’s The Lost World of Scripture: Ancient Literary Culture and Biblical Authority. As with a couple others that are on my desk it will take a few weeks to get to it, but I do plan on reading and reviewing it. I enjoyed Walton’s The Lost World of Genesis One: Ancient Cosmology and the Origins Debate. Here is the blurb for the new book:
Walton and Sandy summarize what we know of orality and oral tradition as well as the composition and transmission of texts in the ancient Near East and the Greco-Roman world, and how this shapes our understanding of the Old and New Testaments. The authors then translate these insights into a helpful model for understanding the reliability of Scripture.

Mine arrived today, too. I’m really looking forward to it!
Brian and Jason now as well, I actually got an advanced PDF copy of it and finished it last month. It is a landmark book! I will be glad to post a link to my review and in fact, my two hour interview with Brent Sandy on my show, the Deeper Waters Podcast, covering the book, if both of you are interested.
