Thou wilt turn, O God, and bring us to life, and Thy people shall rejoice in Thee: show us, O Lord, Thy mercy, and grant us Thy salvation. (Psalm 84:7–8)
Things like team sports usually have two sides: the winners and the losers. The losers tend to sulk and the winners tend to rejoice. Being on the losing side is tough and every team and its fans will eventually experience that loss.
With the Lord, however, there is always reason to rejoice because of His mercy and salvation. Such rejoicing might not be an external expression of a smile or an outburst of cheer, especially if the person is in the midst of suffering. Instead, the rejoice might in one’s heart or when one meets the Lord.
Advent is a beautiful reminder that the one who brings us all joy has come, is in our midst through the same Spirit by which He was conceived, and will come again.
