C.A. Evans, FROM JESUS TO THE CHURCH
C.A. Evans, FROM JESUS TO THE CHURCH

John Walker has posted his entry on Chapter 1 “Did Jesus Intend to Found a Church?” He concludes:

Evans succeeds in defending the deep Jewishness of the early Christian movement – a very worthwhile task. Though I am not convinced of his reading of Paul, he was persuasive in drawing out the coherent vision of a restored Israel. The chapter title was a bit misleading, as it touched on the early Jesus movement as a whole, not just the historical Jesus. However, that is of little detriment.

I was also deeply impressed by Evans’ knowledge of the secondary sources. Few can use the Qumran texts with the acumen that he does.

Overall, those who know Evans will not be surprised with what they find here: Top-notch scholarship.
