A couple of months ago I decided to end my weekly post featuring an interaction with the thought of N.T. Wright (see here). Well, I am bringing it back. Let’s begin by sharing this video on his recent lecture at Trinity Western University titled “Being Human”.
Anthropology, Audio/Video, N.T. Wright
Brian,
I would rather have seen Barth or even Calvin? But I know the latter is a no go for you, however. Btw, note that Barth loved to read John Calvin. 🙂
@Fr. Robert: You will likely never see me give a sustained interaction with Barth or Calvin. I respect both of them, but I just can’t find myself energetically engaged with either. I enjoy reading a little Barth here and there though which is progress from a few months ago.
Brian,
Myself, I just cannot see how a Western Christian theolog can not take serious note of either man! Btw, this appears to be a weakness in Wright, his use of both? And another Brit I find “not” being read so much today, is the profound Alister McGrath?
Firstly, thank you for bringing this back so that I know how fast the week is progressing.
Secondly, I confess to loving all things Writesque 😉
And I’ve taken somewhat of a break. These days I’m so consumed with getting some stuff done by May. 😉
*of course that was Wright’s non-use of both..
The man, the myth, the Bishop. Tom Wright.
@Fr. Robert: I don’t think Barth and Calvin are necessary unless one is asking questions where they attempt an answer. And even then, it is not as if Barth and Calvin are the only great minds worth engaging. No one can read everyone, so we all pick and choose.
Stuart: You’re welcome!
@T.C.: A break is always good.
@Daniel: Well, no longer a Bishop….
Brian,
Not to engage Calvin and Barth, at least somewhat in depth would be a theological and western thunderous silence and loss! Calvin the early biblical humanist & Reformer, and Barth the Modern Church Father! Just ask your professor Marc! 🙂
@Fr. Robert: Maybe, but we all must choose how to use our time. Barth and Calvin are great, I am sure. Again, I have enjoyed some insights from Barth, but he isn’t addressing my interest and he thinks and writes in ways that don’t necessarily excite and engage my interest. Sorry.
Brian,
No apology needed for me, but perhaps your fine professor? 🙂 Maybe you are just bummed that you did not take up that C -note offer from CBD for the Barth CD? Sometimes ya just have to lock your wife in the closet, and buy your books! lol 🙂
I assume Marc is fine with my interest being different than his own. He is very accommodating. I wouldn’t dare try to lock my wife in a closet. Likely, I would end up being the one stuck in the closet if I tried.
Well forgive me, but manhood is much different today! Sometimes I wonder what has happened to both the American and British male? lol But I am just from another generation I guess. But not too many years.. and my generation will be gone! I know some wish it would come sooner! > I am thinking of a rather big (size) blogger man right now.. 🙂
Brian, I closed my laptop, and remember he’s no longer the bishop. We can replace that with reverend. 🙂
Works for me.
I always appreciate N.T. Wright – thanks for the post!!
